Importing test cases

In addition to creating test cases in Testersuite , it is also possible to import test cases. This can be useful, for example, if you already have test cases that you want to have in Testersuite . You could also choose to have test cases worked out in Excel first and then import them. In that case it is convenient to give those who have to work out the test cases our Excel template. You can download this template in the import function. More information about the import function can be found here.

Creating logical test cases using the 'data combination test'
Want to create logical test cases using the 'data combination test' and then import them into Testersuite? We have developed a handy Excel template with which you can do this. You set up all possible variants (combinations) using this template and then import the variants as logical test cases into Testersuite. An example:

You want to test the different variants for website orders. To make sure you don't overlook any variants you are going to create a matrix using the 'data combination test'. First you determine the so-called 'determinants' and their associated 'values.'

When you multiply the number of values for each determinant you know how many possible variants there are. So in this example, 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 24 variants.

Once you have determined the determinants and values then you can add a field of type 'Multiple Values' to a test case in Testersuite in customizing. For example, name that field 'Variant'.

Then determine all possible combinations (variants) by creating a matrix. Each value becomes a column and each row becomes a variant. To do this, use our Excel template. The 'Variant' column in the template contains formulas to generate the variants. This is needed to eventually import the variants into Testersuite.

Then you determine which variants you want to test and delete any that you don't want to test. Then you can use the Excel file as an import file to create test cases in Testersuite.

You can download the Excel template here:

When importing the variants as test cases, you can link the 'Variant' column to the multiple values field 'Variant' that you created in customizing. In addition, you should also link the 'Variant' column to the 'Long Description' field of the test case. This ensures that when running the test case in a test run, the variant will be displayed in the description of the test step.

The end result is that for each variant in the import file, a logical test case has been created in Testersuite.

In the list of test cases in Testersuite , you can now search/filter by, for example, all test cases with a variant involving payment by Ideal.
